Sun Lakes, Arizona Christmas Eve and Christmas Events 2010

December 24, 2010 by nikita · Leave a Comment

Hoping this finds everyone doing well, and enjoying the holiday season in Sun Lakes, Arizona retirement paradise under balmy, warm skies. Whether you celebrate Christmas or don’t and are wondering what will be open, I’ve put together a list of things to do today and for Christmas 2010, tomorrow.

In Sun Lakes’ Ironwood and Oakwood communities (often called IronOak) all restaurants are closed on Christmas Day. For those wanting to enjoy a meal out tomorrow you can find a list of open restaurants here. Here in the East Valley, conveniently close to Sun Lakes, Arizona, the following restaurants are open on Christmas:

The Buttes Tempe Resort is offering a champagne brunch buffet on Christmas. Get a panoramic view of the Southeast Valley at the Top of the Rock Restaurant or at the Market Café for a more casual setting. Reservations required for both restaurants.

Bucca di Beppo has various locations throughout the Valley and offers family-style southern Italian classics; they’re open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The C-Fu Gourmet is a “Chinese restaurant best known for its dim sum, small portions of meals passed around in carts, the family-style breakfast runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3p.m.” (Arizona Republic).

At the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino, Café 24/7 will feature a dinner buffet on Christmas that will include a soup or salad, followed by roasted prime rib, a variety of side dishes and desserts. The cost is $14.95 per person and reservations are required.

At the Vee Quiva Casino in the Estrella Deli, families on Christmas can enjoy roasted prime rib of beef with horseradish, baked potato, green beans and a dinner roll for $10.50.

If you and your family enjoy viewing holiday lights then don’t miss the Arizona Celebration of Lights which is a mile-long drive through Christmas display including more than 7 million lights and benefiting Valley charities. Today and tomorrow hours are 6-10 p.m. at 2209 N. 99th Ave in Phoenix. Admission is $15 per vehicle, and discounts are available for seniors and military personnel.

According to the Arizona Republic, “The highlight is the drive-through light tunnel. It returns this year along with new animated and still light displays including arches in the shapes of stars, elves, reindeer, presents and snowflakes. Larger displays include a North Pole railroad, Toyland and a Victorian village. During weekends, visitors can eat, drink and take photos with Santa at the Christmas village set up at the end of the route.”

To view the southwestern version of holiday lights, visit the Fountain Hills Luminaria Lighting tonight at 6 p.m. around the lake in Fountain Hills, Arizona (North Saguaro Boulevard and East El Lago Drive).  The luminarias reflecting on the lake are beautiful!

Whether you already live in the sunny retirement paradise of Sun Lakes, Arizona or you’re bundled up against the snow throughout the majority of the country, I just want to take a moment to wish you and yours a very happy holiday season.  As always, if you’re interested in homes for sale in Sun Lakes, the award-winning retirement community, or just learning more about the community in general I invite you to contact me.
