City of Chandler’s Website Nationally Recognized

Recently the Center for Digital Government recognized the significant value the City of Chandler’s website www.ChandlerAZ.gov is providing to its residents. It has almost 1000 pages of information. Even residents from surrounding areas such as Sun Lakes, Gilbert and Ahwatukee would find the information helpful because of their proximity to Chandler.
Even though I have lived in Chandler and its neighbor, Ahwatukee for 16 yrs, I was very surprised how much information was on the site. There are the typical sections for city services, city council agenda meetings and phone numbers to contact various departments.
Some of the more in depth sections included history of Chandler (Dr A.J. Chandler was the founder and 1st mayor when the city incorporated in 1920), economic development section listing information of types of business (retail, industrial & technology) and major employers (Intel, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Micro Chip and Verizon) and news information about activities occurring in Chandler.
The electronic or E-Services section allow you to pay your utilities, register for recreation classes & programs as well as apply for employment.
Even more unique were the links to:
- Venomous Creatures that goes to the University of Arizona, College of Pharmacy complete with video pictures of scorpion, rattlesnakes and Gila monster lizards.
- List of Federal Stimulus projects awarded to Chandler. This ranged from $15,000,000 for rapid transit bus system from South Chandler to Mesa’s light rail connection to $30,200 police training equipment
- The main stage for Chandler Performing Arts Center is being renovated. There are pictures of the remodeling posted on the site. You can also purchase tickets on line for future performances coming to Chandler without those annoying per ticket fees.
- My favorite- a list of Dog Barks to exercise your dog.
The City of Chandler website can be a great resource for residents of Chandler and well as winter visitors who want to know everything from upcoming events, to Chandler history, how to turn on and off utilities, and recycling rules.
